I have always had an interest in how clothes are made, but not in "fashion", and when I first decided to do the Hungry Dress series in 2006 I realised that the best way to have control over it would be to make my own dresses. Thus I took a short, one week course in The Grafton Academy in following patterns, and for the past few years I have been teaching myself dressmaking. In this time I discovered a love of up-cycling, of embroidery, of audio books and talk radio, and especially a love of being able to fit my boobs into a top. In 2012 I supplied dresses for a shop, Swing Couture, that opened in Lusk (but didn't survive unfortunately), that was a fun challenge. I have still never made a pair of trousers, and I will sometimes avoid making sleeves because I'm a coward about some things.
